Adam Fox Fights ALS: Rangers Star Spearheads Father-in-Law's Battle (2026)

A Heartfelt Battle: Adam Fox's Personal Connection to ALS

In a world where sports and personal lives intertwine, we often witness athletes using their platforms for a greater cause. This story is about one such athlete, Adam Fox, a New York Rangers defenseman, and his unwavering support for his father-in-law, Tim Green, in their shared fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

But here's where it gets controversial... or rather, inspiring.

Troy Green, Tim's son and Adam's brother-in-law, shares an intriguing dynamic. Initially, he admits to following the unwritten 'big brother code,' which meant he wasn't supposed to like anyone romantically involved with his sister, Tate. However, over time, their family bond has grown stronger, and their unity in the face of ALS is truly remarkable.

"I'm extremely protective of my sister, and it was a challenge to not like Adam. But seeing how they've come together and persevered through this disease is incredibly inspiring," Troy shared.

And this is the part most people miss: ALS doesn't just affect the individual diagnosed; it impacts the entire family. Adam, Tate, and their baby girl, Greer Rose, are a testament to this, as they navigate life with a loved one battling ALS.

Tim Green, a former NFL linebacker, was diagnosed with ALS in 2016. Since then, the family has been actively involved in raising awareness and funds for ALS research. They started Tackle ALS, a fundraising initiative, in partnership with the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Tackle ALS has raised over $10 million since its inception, with every cent going directly to fund ALS research and treatments. Adam Fox has personally donated $1,023 for every goal and $523 for every assist, raising over $100,000 so far. His commitment to this cause is a testament to the power of sports stars using their influence for good.

But it's not just about the money. Adam's daily interactions with ALS patients and his reserved suite at Madison Square Garden for those affected by the disease show his genuine care and understanding.

"It's about getting back to normalcy," Adam explains. "The physical deterioration is a challenge, but the person is still there, and we can still do normal things. That's what we try to emphasize by bringing families to games."

The impact of ALS on families is a topic close to Adam's heart. Tate, his wife, is working with the NHL Players' Association to create more awareness, and their efforts are making a difference.

"It becomes personal when it affects your family directly," says Mike Sullivan, the Rangers' coach, who also has a family member battling ALS. "Adam's platform as an NHL player for one of the premier teams can really help shine a light on this disease."

Troy Green adds, "Adam is the real deal. You can see his authenticity in his interviews and interactions. He's a perfect fit for our family, and his involvement in this fight is a testament to that."

There's a glimmer of hope in the ALS world, with medical breakthroughs on the horizon. Master platform trials, which have transformed breast cancer treatment, are now being used for ALS research. Tackle ALS is funding the first such trial, with testing sites across the U.S. and Canada.

"It's an efficient way to test multiple drugs simultaneously and continue to test new treatments as they're discovered," Troy explains. "In just two years, we've funded five drug trials, which would have taken much longer and cost significantly more without this approach."

As Adam Fox continues his hockey career, he'll also continue to fight for ALS awareness and research. His story is a reminder that sports stars can be more than just athletes; they can be advocates, inspiring change and hope.
